Children Service
Our weekly Children’s Shabbat service starts at 10:30am and ends at around
12pm. This service is for children between the ages 0-8 years old and is always
very well attended. The service is taken on a rota system by Reebitzan Hyman,
Lillian Lousky and Rachel Simons. We also have helpers in the service who are
Gila Rome and Laura Baron that help by making sure that the
children are on the correct page in the Siddur during the service.
We have special Siddurs for this service that have been made with bright pictures to get
the children to use them.
During the service there is chance to listen to stories on the weeks Sedra, to
sing Jewish songs and dancing. Half way into the service there is a chance for
all the children that have birthdays within their family to get a sweet and get
happy birthday sung to them in Hebrew and English. If it is the child’s own
birthday everyone in the service will sing them a special “Happy Birthday” and
they will wear a birthday hat. Sometimes the service is decorated with balloons
and banners if the service leaders are told beforehand that it is their
birthday.
The children also get a chance to participate individually in the service, as
well as in a group as a whole, this gives them extra confidence and enjoyment.
During the service the children are also given a chance to tell everyone any
special news they have from that week, whether it be the birth of a baby brother
or sister to a trip to the cinema.
Also every week at the end of the service we finish with a large Kiddush enjoyed
by all, with Grape Juice, Callah, Cakes, Biscuits, Crisps, Sweets, Chocolates,
Juices and loads of other nosh.
The walls of the service are always decorated with pictures, coloured in by the
children, which are changed on a regular basis. All of the children have
participated in colouring in the pictures and take great pleasure in seeing them
displayed on the wall.
As if this was not enough there are also special events organised throughout the
year. Some of these events are a Purim party, Chanukah Party, Lag B’Omer
Bonfire, Film Night, Simchat Torah Party with a professional entertainer and Shavout Party. The majority of these events are free for the children that
attend the service on a regular basis.
On Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur the service is usually packed so we ask for you
to turn up on time for this enjoyable service.
