The Tibber Library
Did you know that Ilford United Synagogue has a free reference and lending
library?
Thanks to the generosity of Harvey and Greta Tibber it has made it possible for
this to open.
The Tibber Library is situated on the first floor of Schaller House next to the
Main Synagogue. It is self service and is open whenever the office is open. The
opening times are Monday to Thursday 9:00am – 4:00pm and Friday and Sunday
9:00am - 12:00pm.
The Library has recently been thoroughly reorganised and now contains around a
thousand books of Jewish interest.
The sections on Judaism range from the scholarly down to what a beginner would
want to know but there is much more. We have sections devoted to Israel, woman’s
interests, self- refinement, biography, history and short stories from old
favourites to modern authors. There are books for children and young people.
There are different types of encyclopaedias and other reference books and
looking around you will come across the unexpected such as cookery books,
humorous works and much else. There are books for all tastes ranging from
religious law through to detective stories and thrillers. Many of the books are
on history, Israel and people of course and much more. You will find there is a
special youth section as well as a children's section where you can borrow books
for your little brothers and sisters. There is a special section containing
recommended books of all kinds where you may find your particular gem.
You may borrow books for a month and of course renew them if required. There are
no formalities to joining the library, you merely choose your books and sign
them out in the book by the exit.
You will certainly find a good deal of interesting reading that you will not
find in your local library.
There are no charges and no strings attached. The library is for you and we would
like to see you use it. We hope you enjoy what you find and come back again and
again.
